Frequently asked questions

Planning your visit to Highland Homestead? Here are the most common questions we receive from guests eager to meet our Scottish Highland Cows. From understanding our gentle giants to booking your unforgettable experience, find all the information you need right here to prepare for your adventure.

Are all highland cows with horns bulls?

No, both Highland bulls and heifers (female cows) can have magnificent horns. It's a common misconception that only males have them. Our herd includes both, and you'll quickly learn to tell them apart during your visit!

How do I book an experience and what's your cancellation policy?

Booking is easy! Simply click on the 'Book your experience' button on our website. You can then select your preferred time slot and complete your payment securely via Square Space. Please note that while bookings are non-refundable if you cancel, we are happy to re-book your experience for a time that suits you better. In case of inclement weather, the owner reserves the right to reschedule for safety; affected guests will be notified and re-booked at their convenience.

What can I expect during a highland cow experience?

Prepare for a truly hands-on and heartwarming experience! You'll have plenty of time to learn about the gentle nature of Highland cattle, brush them, offer treats, and enjoy cuddles. Our cows are accustomed to people and love the interaction, ensuring a memorable visit with our Mama's, Calves, and our sweet Bull.

What safety tips should I follow during my visit?

Your safety and comfort are our top priorities. Please do not approach calves or cows without a staff member present. All children under 12 must be supervised by an adult. For hygiene, hands must be washed before approaching the calves – a washing station is available. Guests are required to wear closed-toe shoes. Additionally, everyone must sign a waiver before visiting the farm. This waiver can be emailed to you in advance to print and fill out, or we can provide one upon your arrival.
